How Ceramic Shield works

A ceramic coating helps keep your paint looking its best between details. Here's what it does, how to care for it, and when to come back for a fresh layer.

What a ceramic coating does

Ceramic Shield bonds to your vehicle's clear coat and forms a thin, durable protective layer. That layer helps your paint stay glossy, makes everyday dirt and grime easier to wash away, and helps protect against sun exposure and road film.

A coating reduces the risk of light scratches and chips, but it doesn't prevent them. Think of it as an extra layer of defense for your paint, not armor.

How to care for your coating

A little care goes a long way:

  • Use pH-neutral washes. Gentle, pH-neutral soaps clean the surface without wearing down the coating.
  • Skip brush washes. Automatic brush washes can scuff the surface and shorten the life of your coating.
  • Use soft, clean microfiber. Clean towels and mitts help keep the finish smooth and glossy.

When to reapply

  • Ceramic Shield (1-Year): protection for up to 1 year with proper care. We recommend reapplying every 12 months to keep your paint protected.
  • Ceramic Shield (3-Year): manufacturer rated up to 3 years with proper care. This coating is rated for longer intervals between applications, and how long it lasts on your vehicle depends on its condition and care.

Why the 3-Year starts with paint correction or a polish

A coating locks in whatever is underneath it. Because the 3-Year coating is built to last longer, we prepare your paint first with paint correction or a polish to smooth out swirls and light imperfections. That way, the finish sealed under your coating is clean, clear, and glossy.
